REVIEW: Killer Movie site Hoopla.nu gave us a cool review. Here is a bit of the review: "Alex Ferrari's short film Cyn may be light on in terms of running time, but it certainly packs a mighty punch. Drawing inspiration from blaxploitation films, James Bond, and basically anything a little bit racy and over the top, Cyn clocks in at just over five minutes. This would have to be the only disappointment, actually - that it's over so quickly."

FESTIVAL: CYN is an "Official Selection" of the Mandurah Short Film Festival in MANDURAH, Australia.

The Mandurah Short Film Festival started in 2003 with the idea of encouraging people who would not normally consider producing short films and entering film festivals to do just that. The organising committee initially decided on category awards for schools, seniors ( over 55s ), indigenous film makers and "locals". This was in addition to open awards as we still wanted the full spectrum of films available to the public.

Our festival has continued to grow as have our categories. After consultation with the organisers of various film schemes for people living with disabilities we included the " Special Challenge " category to our festival in 2006. This category was for people living with disablility or disadvantage and produced some absolutely stunning and inspiring entrys from some very amazing film makers. We asked entrants to tell us a little about themselves on their entry form so that we could explain to our audience who the film maker was.

The Special Challenge category is typical of what our festival is about - letting people tell their many stories and share their ideas and feelings with us through the making of a short film ( a rewarding venture in itself ).

We hope that all film makers will share their films with our festival. Whether they be the most humble or ground breaking, if they have something to say, we are listening. November 03, 2007

FESTIVAL: CYN is an "Official Selection" of the MicroCinema Film Festival in Palatine, Illinois.

If you are a low-to-no budget filmmaker looking for a place to exhibit your work that isn’t shrouded in red tape and self-serving intentions, look no further. Formerly known as the REwind International Media Festival, or “Camp REwind” for short, this annual event will be held in Palatine, Illinois for the third year in a row.

Over the past seven years, the festival has acted as a showcase for low-to-no budget filmmaking. In 2004, founding organization REwind Video changed the name of the festival when they joined forces with fellow no-budget filmmaking site MicrocinemaScene. The merger helped better promote and expand the reach of the festival to the ever-growing community of Microcinema filmmakers. In 2005, the Palatine-based production company, CNGM Pictures, under the sponsorship of Theatre Nebula, took over hosting responsibilities from the first hosts, Linn Productions, who had sponsored the festival in South Dakota. In 2007, Theatre Nebula of Palatine takes over the reigns of the festival for the year. Plans are currently being made for the 2008 Festival to possibly take place in Austin, Texas.

Cyn will play Friday, September 7, 2007 at 1pm.

REVIEW: Killer Mive site Film Apocalypse gave us a great review. Here is a bit of the review: "Hiring Alex Ferrari to make a major motion picture seems like an obvious decision to me. Someone needs to give him $20,000 and leave him alone to make a movie. Because the film is so short and to the point, there really isn't much more to say about the story itself, but I can't say enough about how impressed I am with the quality! Congratulations Alex, you are officially a kick ass indi filmmaker!"

Shot for only $8,000 and featuring special effects normally only seen in Hollywood movies, "Broken" changed a lot of minds about what could be accomplished on a small budget. INTERVIEW: Red Giant Software, the makers of the widely used FCP Filter package Magic Bullet asked director Alex Ferrari to do an interview on how he obtained the styled look for his short film BROKEN: "Broken, an action-suspense movie written and directed by Alex Ferrari, really stands apart from other indie projects. For one, the movie looks like it was shot on film. But with a budget of just $8000 bucks, we know that's not possible.

Alex, along with co-writer/producer, Jorge Flores Rodriguez, Sean Falco--VFX Supervisor, Dan Cregan--VFX Artist and Director of Photograph, Angel Barroeta are true professionals and put their heart and soul into making a great short film which has been accepted and received awards at over 90 film festivals around the world."

REVIEW: Esa Linna of Extraordinary Movie & Video Guide gave us a spotlight on their site. Here is a bit of the review: "Cyn is once again a perfect example from Ferrari & others, what can you do with low budget when you plan every aspect as carefully as you can. And although Cyn looks great (just check out the stunning title scenes), Enigma Factory keeps it simple. And that's the true reason CYN makes you want to see more of the story, and of course the beautiful main character. Luckily, this is just the beginning. "Red Princess Blues" will be the upcoming feature film by Ferrari, that gives us more Cyn."

REVIEW/INTERVIEW: The guys at FXHome gave Cyn an cool review & interview! Here is a bit of the review: "Cyn is a bizarre mix of the grungey, low-budget, 70s exploitation stylings recently resurrected by Grindhouse with slick James Bond adventure fare, held together by a great score, amusingly caricatured characters and a particularly brilliant – and extremely simple – line of dialogue halfway through that I wouldn’t even think of spoiling."

INTERVIEW: The crazy guys at Cinema Crazed decide to interview director Alex Ferrari for a piece they called "Spitting Bullets with Alex Ferrari.": "Fuck off Michael Bay, there's someone better in town who has the potential to be an in-demand director, and his name is Alex Ferrari. I was first introduced to Alex when Cinema Crazed was in the early stages of accepting screeners for independent filmmakers. Alex sent along "Broken," and we were interested to see what he had in store for us. And much to our surprise, "Broken" was absolutely great. Ferrari went onto acclaim for "Broken," a film about a young girl kidnapped by a small group of hit men who assure her she's not who she thinks she is. Later, Ferrari went on to send more of his features to us, and we were hooked. "Cyn" only proved that Ferrari has the bonafide chops to display good old fashioned film entertainment, without any of the clichés, and sheer idiocy big budget directors often drop into."

REVIEW: Film Critic Jeremy Hanke of Micro Filmmaker Magazine gave Cyn an cool review! Here is a bit of the review: "Cyn is a movie that’s designed to be visually impacting, with a secondary emphasis on compelling sound design. Alex Ferrari is well known for his stylistic cinematography, with stark lighting, professional color grading, comic-style shot composition, and amazing credits. The camera placement and framing are quite nice in Cyn. The effects chosen for this film are well done and convincing, from a simple muzzle blast to a bullet-head cam and a believable explosion at the end the film. As to the credits, they are the singularly most amazing credits Mr. Ferrari has yet created, and are fully on par with most of the recent James Bond film credits."

REVIEW: Film Critic The Angry Critic wasn't so angry when he gave Cyn a great review! Here is a bit of the review:"The film is about this woman named Cynthia, Cyn for short. She has been kidnapped by these two madmen and taken to this old abandoned kindergarden. There the men threaten her, and terrorize her. Cyn quickly turns the table on her captors and sends them on their way to the blue fucking bayou. This bitch Cyn is crazy. She certainly surprised the shit out of me. The ending is sweet and to the point. Great short film."

REVIEW: Film Critic JC Macek gave Cyn an amazing review! Here is a bit of the review: "Cyn is a great looking film, evoking in only five minutes some of the more interesting memories of the old Grindhouse-style action and horror flicks of the '70's and '80's. Although a purely digital movie, Cyn has a graininess to its look that would have felt welcome in any given "Video Nasty" library entry. Further, the visual effects (supervised by Dan Cregan) give one hell of an interesting accent to the proceedings, and they culminate in one of the better closing credit sequences I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing."

REVIEW: Film Critic Martin Vilcans Librador.com gave Cyn a stellar review! Here is a bit of the review: "Cyn has a story that fits the short format well. Since the story is so short, I won't spoil it by saying anything about it, except that it includes guns and explosions. The special effects are good for a low-budget short, especially considering the short time they had. What's really impressive about Cyn is the beginning and ending credit sequences. They look very professional and the audio sounds good too. It's obvious that they spent a lot of the short time they had on them. "

ARTICLE: British Film Magazine did an article on Cyn: "When Alex Ferrari made the Top 100 (out of 12,000) of Speilberg's "On the Lot" comp, they asked him to create a short film in 6 days. Less than a week later Cyn was born. Here is the low down: Cyn is a trimmed down version of a longer script writer/director Alex Ferrari created for his upcoming feature film project called “Red Princess Blues.” As he developed the "Princess" short film he noticed that it had less and less in common with his characters and storyline of his feature project and he decided it deserved a life of its own."

FESTIVAL: CYN is an "Official Selection" of the Columbus IndieClub Summer Filmmaker Gathering in Columbus, OH .

When: SUNDAY JULY 29th 2007 10am - 4pm

Where: Blendon Woods Metro Park (Hickory Grove Shelter)
4265 E. Dublin-Granville Road
Westerville, OH 43081

We just want to remind everyone the event is coming up shortly. We have the Hickory Grove Shelter area reserved from 10am until 4pm and are looking to have lots of fun. Last year we had all kinds of games from Horseshoes and football to Volleyball and Frisbee. Everyone brings something to eat themselves or share or both (up to you). There is a large grill that will need to be shared or you can bring your own as far as I know. The shelter is large and there is plenty of room, plenty of tables, plenty of space. You can also bring your kids, there were swings and other equipment there last year so hopefully that will all still be there. But there's lots of space to run around and it's all private.

We welcome all filmmakers and enthusiasts from all over to come out and join us. So if you happen to be near the area or just willing to travel the distance come on out. It's a great opportunity for networking as well as just having a ball with some folks who share an interest in movies.

If you have questions about this event please feel free to contact J. Michael Lewis director of Columbus IndieClub at justin@temperedzealot.com or at 614.527.4772.

ARTICLE: Jeremy Hanke, the editor of MicroFilmmaker Magazine was writing an article on the rise an fall of the TV show Jericho and they happen to mention Alex Ferrari in the artice. Crazy stuff. Here is what they had to say: "Which in turn translates to us as filmmakers. Whether you look at it from the perspective of Hollywood picking up Indie films or an American public that’s now getting more used to being interactively involved with their favorite content on a grass roots level, the war to resurrect Jericho is setting precedents that are great for us. (To get an idea of the power of grass roots support in our community, specifically, just look at rising phenom Alex Ferrari. Although I’ve seen filmmakers that are more talented than he is, I’ve never seen a more vigilant filmmaker about self-promotion than he is. His perfection of internet advertising, offering interviews to every print and online magazine, and storming the streets of Park City, Utah to track down the likes of Roger Ebert to review his short film, Broken, have made him legend. His phenomenal mastery of grass roots promotions and charisma have caused LA magazines to start dubbing him the “Quentin Tarantino" of the new millennium and colleges are requesting him to speak to their classes at a rate that’s not too shy of that of Kevin Smith requests.)"

ARTICLE: ICOM Film and Video Magazine just did an article on us: "A Very Cyn-ful Short Film: Known for his award-winning, break-though film Broken, (www.whatisbroken.com) which became one of the most celebrated indie short films in recent years. Broken has been screened in over 100 international film festivals and covered by over 250 media outlets around the world. Also, completely self-distributed the Broken: Special Edition DVD has sold over 5000 units world-wide. Produced through his production company The Enigma Factory, Inc., his new short film "Cyn" (www.alittlecyn.com) is a trimmed down version of a longer script writer/director Alex Ferrari created for his upcoming feature film project called "Red Princess Blues." As he developed the "Princess" short film he noticed that it had less and less in common with his characters and storyline of his feature project."

REVIEW: Rogue Cinema gave Cyn an amazing review! Here is a bit of the review: "The dialogue and action in this piece is very reminiscent of films by Quentin Tarrantino and Robert Rodriguez. It's sharp, quick, witty and extremely well acted. The look of the film is phenomenal, and the editing, angles and visuals all suit the scene to perfection. One part actually had me laughing in shock, because I wasn't expecting it. It takes a lot to surprise me, and looking back on it I probably shouldn't have been surprised, but still it was hilarious."

ARTICLE: Film Synergy decided to run a piece on Cyn. Check it out: "Cyn was made on a 6 day schedule [ from script to final output ] for under $1000 and boosts one of the craziest end title sequences ever created for a 5 min short film. Think of throwing an atom bomb on a roach, completely over the top ; )"

REVIEW: The ReviewGuyOnline made Cyn the main focus of his website for a week, making it Alex Ferrari week. Crazy!!! Here is a bit of the review: "Being a self-published author, there is a certain amount of joy I experience when seeing others take their dreams in their hands and fulfilling them. Writer/Director Alex Ferrari is a man that has taken his own future and molded it into something magical. Alex Ferrari’s work first came into view with a screener of Broken. If you had the chance to see the early works of Steven Spielberg or Peter Jackson in film school you’d pull up a seat and check it out right? Take this advice; check out any film by Alex Ferrari because he is the next man that will take the big screen by storm."

REVIEW: Movie Jungle did a cool review of CYN, here is a bit of the review: "Excellent indie micro-short that runs for a mere 5 minutes. Director/writer Alex Ferrari, the force behind other short “Broken,” works suspenseful magic in a fragment of a time that other filmmakers could reach in theatrical releases running over 90 minutes."

REVIEW: Erik's Film Jabber Movie Reviews did a review of CYN, here is a bit of the review: "Overall, I liked it...I see the potential. What was most appealing to me, strangely enough, is the end credits: they really look kick-ass. Also, the marketing material for the movie (the website and movie posters) are also very professional looking. I look forward to seeing a longer version of Cyn at some point down the line."

REVIEW: Film Critic STEVE GENIER from Cinema-Nocturna.com did a review on CYN. : "It’s a "cyn" this is only five minutes and change in length, just as things get started, they quickly end or do they? CYN, the latest from the director who brought us the high octane short BROKEN, has yet again brought us another fix and hooked us even more. This time in the form of one deadly female prisoner who is a sharp as a whip and then some. There’s no time to blink, not time to sneeze, no time to turn your head, if you do, some split second, pure adrenalinized action will slap you upside the head and knock you silly leaving you in total limbo."

REVIEW: Killer movies site Arrow in the Head did a review on CYN. : "3 out of 4 stars!!! Cyn is big on flash, with nice graphics on the credits, and there's some decent action within it. Quick cuts and not a lot of dialogue leave me with little else to say besides the notion that Cyn is slick, short and then over, like your favorite dwarfed lady of the night."

REVIEW: Film Critic Todd Brown from TwitchFilm.net did a killer piece on CYN. : "We don't review a lot of short films here in any depth but Alex Ferrari's Cyn is noteworthy on a pair of levels. First, it's just good. Ferrari knows his stuff and he wrings a remarkable amount of punch out of an impossibly tight budget and production schedule. Second, because Cyn is drawn from the same creative well that spawned Ferrari's in development feature Red Princess Blues...it's got a strong central premise, solid character work and more than enough technical whiz-bang to be a compelling little piece of work."

REVIEW: The great guys over at FilmGuru.net did a cool review of CYN! Check it out : "I have to give it to Ferarri. In five brief minutes he puts forward a film that perfectly showcases his style as a director. The film is dark, violent, and edgy, but also has a touch of humor that is so often missing from young directors taking themselves too seriously."

REVIEW: Film Critic MJ Simpson from the UK gave us a A- grade on Cyn. Check it out : "Cyn is desperately stylish and enormously professional. Cyn looks super thanks to the excellent work of cinematographer Egon Stephan Jr (who will probably never have a cooler credit in my eyes than Second Assistant Camera on Revenge of the Nerds II). Cyn is top-notch, but it’s just a tease, a taster that makes me want to see Alex Ferrari go to town on something with real depth."

REVIEW: The Movies Made Me Do It wrote a review of CYN: "9 out 0f 10!!! This leads us to tonight's film, which is actually a trimmed down version of the upcoming feature film “Red Princess Blues.” The storyline for it is simple: the titular character Cyn (Stephaine Michaels) is strapped to a chair while her kidnappers (Josh Randall and Frank Rodriguez) contemplate what to do with her. Cyn eventually turns the tables on them courtesy of some nice mind games, and the end result of all of this is... well, pretty damned neat, but I won't spoil it."
